Connect KLARA to ChatGPT or Claude: How to use the AI assistant integration

Written by KLARA | Sep 8, 2026, 2:30:00 PM

Ask your AI assistant to find an invoice, an accounting entry or your latest payslip and get the answer directly from your KLARA account. With the new AI assistant integration, you can connect KLARA to Claude or ChatGPT. Spend less time switching between applications, find information faster and start certain tasks directly from your chat.

What you can do directly from your chat

Depending on the permissions assigned to your API key, your assistant can, for example:

  • “Create a draft invoice for Muster Ltd: three hours of consulting at CHF 180.00 per hour, payable within 30 days.”
  • “Add the UID CHE-123.456.789 to Muster Ltd's customer details.”
  • “Record CHF 250.00 for office supplies, paid from the bank account, and attach the receipt as a PDF.”
  • “Add eight hours of overtime to Anna Muster's current payslip.”

Simply talk to your assistant as you normally would. If any information is missing, it will ask you for the details.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that allows AI assistants to access features and data from external applications in a controlled way.

KLARA MCP establishes a secure, controlled connection between your AI assistant and your KLARA account. Depending on the permissions you grant, your assistant can retrieve information and perform certain tasks.

What can your assistant access?

Your assistant can only view and modify data covered by the permissions assigned to your API key.

For example, if your key only provides access to customers and items, your assistant cannot view or change payroll data, even if you ask it to.

You define these permissions when creating your API key in KLARA under “Users”. We recommend limiting access to only what is necessary.

The available features also depend on which KLARA products and subscriptions your company uses.

How you stay in control of sensitive actions

Actions with significant consequences or changes that are difficult to reverse are not carried out immediately.

Deleting data, creating and sending invoices, accounting entries, receipts, payroll items, number ranges, changes to company master data and subscriptions always require four steps:

  1. The assistant prepares the action.
  2. It shows you a summary.
  3. You confirm the action using a one-time code.
  4. Only then is the action carried out.

If you don't confirm a prepared action, it automatically expires after 30 minutes.

You don't need to share your KLARA password with Claude or ChatGPT to establish the connection. Instead, you use your personal API key on the KLARA MCP login page.

Your API key is never shared directly with the AI assistant. It is stored in encrypted form on the KLARA MCP server.

You can delete your API key at any time under “Users” in KLARA. This immediately ends the connection.

Your data and external AI providers

The AI assistant integration is an optional additional service. You decide whether to connect KLARA to an AI assistant and which one you want to use.

The respective provider, such as Anthropic or OpenAI, processes responses according to its own terms and conditions, which may involve processing data outside Switzerland.

Sensitive information, such as Swiss social security (AHV) numbers, dates of birth and employee numbers, never leaves the KLARA server.
