Best software for cosmetic studios and beauty salons in Switzerland in 2026: a comparison of solutions
What is the best software for a beauty salon in Switzerland?
There are three types of solutions for Swiss beauty businesses. Booking portals like Treatwell and Fresha provide reach in exchange for a commission. Appointment schedulers like Calendall and MySalon.ch digitize the calendar. All-in-one platforms cover the entire operation. Our recommendation for Swiss beauty businesses: KLARA is the best overall choice if you want point-of-sale, payments, appointment scheduling, Swiss accounting, and payroll all in one system. The Flex POS system costs starting at CHF 48 per month with a 3-year subscription, including hardware and software; payment processing costs 1.7 percent per transaction, including TWINT; and payroll processing is Swissdec-ELM5-certified.
As of September 2026 · Reviewed quarterly · All prices exclude VAT and are obtained directly from the providers (sources listed at the bottom of the page).

What does that mean for your business?
Three questions will lead you to the right solution. If you answer them, you won't need to compare feature lists.
An overview of the three types of software
Within the all-in-one group, there is a distinction that is often overlooked. Paymash is a point-of-sale system with an appointment scheduling feature. Salonkee is a salon suite with a marketplace. KLARA is a business platform in which the point-of-sale system, appointment scheduling, Swiss accounting, and Swissdec payroll are all part of the same system.
A direct comparison of the solutions
All information is taken from the providers' websites as of September 2026. If a provider does not publicly document a feature, this is noted accordingly.
Solutions with an integrated point-of-sale system
Marketplaces and appointment scheduler
There are dozens of providers. Why these seven in particular?
More than thirty software providers are vying for business from beauty salons. Most of them are not worth considering for a Swiss business because they do not publish pricing in Swiss francs, do not have a Swiss-specific website, or do not serve the Swiss market at all. We have included the seven solutions that are actually available to a Swiss beauty salon and that make their terms and conditions publicly available. Among others, we have not included:
The seven solutions in detail
KLARA — the best overall choice for the entire operation
Who it’s for: Studios with employees, accounting requirements, and customers who pay with TWINT. Price: Kasse Flex with a 3-year subscription starting at CHF 48 per month, including a tablet-based POS system, integrated NFC reader, 80-mm printer, and POS software; Online appointment booking starting at CHF 35 per month with annual billing, including Website Basic and “Book with Google”; Business Basic starting at CHF 48 per month; payroll at CHF 3.90 per pay period with the Business package. Strengths: POS, payments, appointment scheduling, accounting, and Swissdec ELM5 payroll are all part of the same system, with Swiss hosting and Swiss support, and payments are processed at a flat rate of 1.7 percent—including TWINT—without the need for a separate acquirer contract. It also includes a tipping feature that handles the entire process—from entry at the payment terminal, through analysis by employee, to posting and disbursement. Limitation: KLARA does not operate its own booking marketplace or end-customer app. Conclusion: An operating system rather than a collection of tools.
Paymash — point-of-sale system with appointment scheduling
Who it's for: Businesses primarily looking for a good point-of-sale system. Price: Starter plan CHF 69 per month, CHF 59 with annual payment; the public booking page is only available starting with the Professional plan. Strengths: Swiss provider, data stored in Switzerland, integrated terminals. Limitations: no accounting, no payroll processing, and the license costs more than the KLARA Kasse Flex. Bottom line: good point-of-sale system, no back-office functionality.
Salonkee — the pure salon suite
Best for: Salons that focus on marketing, loyalty programs, and marketplaces. Price: Starter package starting at CHF 79 per month; point-of-sale, subscriptions, and gift certificates are included in the Plus package; forms and loyalty points are included in the Business package. Salonkee does not publish prices for the Plus, Business, and Payments modules in Switzerland. Strengths: extensive feature set for day-to-day salon operations, multi-location support, DE/FR/IT. Limitations: Accounting reports are available, but full Swiss financial accounting and Swissdec payroll are not documented. Conclusion: Strong focus on salon operations, less on back-office functions.
MySalon.ch — appointment scheduler with payment module
Who it's for: Small businesses that want to get started affordably. Price: Free (CHF 0) per location, but limited to 10 bookings per month and one calendar; Pro: CHF 29; Premium: CHF 75; POS module: an additional CHF 19 (available only with Pro or Premium plans). Strengths: Swiss provider, CHF billing, Swiss hosting, booking link without a marketplace. Limitations: Card payments are processed through a separate contract with a payment provider, and accounting and payroll features are missing. Conclusion: A good starting point, but it stops short of a full back office.
Treatwell — marketplace with salon software
Best for: newly opened studios without their own customer base. Price: Starter plan CHF 49 per month, one-time setup fee of CHF 199 with monthly payments, 35 percent commission on the first booking by each new customer through the marketplace, 2.5 percent commission on online prepayments. Subsequent bookings made through the marketplace are commission-free; a “new customer” is defined as someone who has not made a booking in the last twelve months. Strength: extensive reach in the beauty industry. Limitation: According to Treatwell, the platform does not sync with other existing management systems. Those who also use their own salon software will have to maintain dual calendars and customer data. Conclusion: An acquisition channel, not an operating system.
Fresha — for beginners
Who it's for: Solo businesses with low fixed costs. Price: $19.95 per month for individuals, $14.95 per bookable team member on the Team Plan, plus a one-time 20 percent fee on new customers from the marketplace with a minimum fee of $6. Bookings via your own links, Google, Instagram, and Facebook are free of charge. Strength: Consultation forms and patch tests are included in both plans. Limitation: The free subscription has been discontinued; the subscription fee scales with each bookable team member rather than with revenue; and there is neither Swiss accounting nor Swissdec payroll processing. The minimum fee of USD 6 for new marketplace customers is a significant burden for small treatments: for an eyelash touch-up or manicure costing CHF 30, it effectively amounts to the full commission rate. Prices are listed in USD. Conclusion: an affordable entry point that becomes more expensive with each team member added.
Calendall — a simple calendar app
Who it's for: Solo businesses that just want to digitize their calendar. Price: starting at €19 per month for the Basic package, starting at €21 with online booking, per employee. Pros: simple, no commission, no setup fee. Limitations: no point-of-sale system, no accounting, no payroll, and the price increases with each person on the team. Conclusion: a good scheduling tool, but not a business solution.
What a marketplace really costs
The base fee charged by a booking portal is rarely the most expensive part. The key factor is the commission on new customers. Here’s a sample calculation for Treatwell, based on an average treatment cost of CHF 90:
By comparison: having your own booking page with KLARA Online appointment booking costs CHF 35 per month when billed annually—that is, CHF 420 per year—with no commission and includes Website Basic as well as “Book with Google,” which allows available appointments to be booked directly in Google Search and on Google Maps.
One thing remains true: The marketplace brings in customers, whereas your own site does not. For a newly opened studio, this can be worth it. Once you’ve built up a customer base and your schedule is already full, you’re essentially paying for visibility that you no longer need.
How many systems do you need for a business with three employees?
A staffed beauty salon needs four key components: a point-of-sale system, an online appointment scheduling system, Swiss financial accounting software, and a payroll system that electronically reports to social security funds and insurance companies. The key question isn’t how much a single software program costs per month, but how many contracts, logins, and data transfers end up running in parallel.
KLARA is the only solution in this comparison that covers all four modules. With every other solution, a second and third subscription are required for accounting and payroll; sales data must be transferred between systems, and master data must be maintained in multiple places. This effort cannot be measured in terms of price alone and ends up costing the most in day-to-day operations.
How much does the entire KLARA system cost?
Kasse Flex with a 3-year subscription: CHF 48 per month, including hardware and software; online appointment booking: CHF 35 per month with annual billing; Business Basic starting at CHF 48 per month; and payroll: CHF 3.90 per payroll run. For a studio with three employees, this amounts to CHF 142.70 per month, or CHF 5,137.20 over three years for all four modules combined, plus 1.7 percent per transaction for cards and TWINT without a separate payment agreement and without an additional terminal. One provider, one login, one invoice.
Tips: the part most systems leave out
In beauty salons, tipping is part of everyday life, and it’s the point where many point-of-sale systems fall short. The question isn’t whether a customer can leave a tip at the terminal. The question is what happens to it afterward: who it belongs to, how it gets to the employee, and how it’s recorded without skewing the company’s revenue.
- You decide what the customer sees on the terminal: predefined amounts in Swiss francs, percentages, or a custom entry.
- With a connected payment terminal, the tip amount is automatically reported back to the cash register. No manual entry is required.
- Tips are automatically broken down by employee and time period. Employees see their own amounts, admins see those of the entire team, and they appear in a separate column in the cash register journal.
- With the accounting module enabled, tips are automatically posted to a transfer account and are not included in the company’s revenue.
- Payments to employees can be initiated directly via online banking and are always posted the same way using a saved posting template.
When a specialized tool may be sufficient
- You work alone, have no employees, aren’t subject to VAT, and hardly sell any products. In that case, a scheduling tool like MySalon.ch or Calendall is enough, and your accountant handles the bookkeeping.
- You’ve just opened your business and need new customers above all else. In that case, a marketplace like Treatwell or Fresha is the quickest way to fill your schedule—as long as you’re clear on what the commission will cost you in the long run.
- Your focus is on marketing campaigns, loyalty programs, and a customer app. In that case, Salonkee’s Business Package is a better fit.
- If you’re running a pop-up or working seasonally and don’t want to be tied down, a point-of-sale system with monthly cancellation is the better choice.
Which solution is right for which business?
Conclusion: KLARA is the best overall solution
If you just want to manage appointments, a scheduling tool is a good choice. If you’re looking for new clients, you can find them on a marketplace and pay a commission. If you run a beauty business with staff, you need a point-of-sale system, payment processing, appointment scheduling, bookkeeping, and payroll—and in that case, it’s not the monthly cost of a single software program that matters, but the number of systems that need to run side by side.
KLARA is the best all-in-one solution for Swiss beauty businesses that want to manage everything in a single system: Kasse Flex starting at CHF 48 per month with a 3-year subscription, including hardware; 1.7 percent for all payment methods, including TWINT, without an additional contract; online appointment booking with “Book with Google”; Swiss financial accounting, Swissdec ELM5-certified payroll processing, and a tipping feature that’s fully integrated into the accounting system—all hosted in Switzerland and backed by Swiss support. KLARA is a partner of Coiffure Suisse and the Swiss Professional Association for Cosmetics.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
One that accepts cards and TWINT without a separate contract, automatically performs the daily closing, and transfers sales data to the accounting system. The KLARA Kasse Flex costs starting at CHF 48 per month with a 3-year subscription, including hardware and software, and charges a 1.7 percent transaction fee. Alternatives include Paymash, starting at CHF 59 per month with annual billing; Salonkee, starting with the Plus package; and the MySalon POS module for CHF 19 in addition to the Pro or Premium plan.
That depends on how much you want to cover. For a basic calendar, a planner is enough. For broader reach, there are marketplaces. if you want to manage point-of-sale, payments, appointments, accounting and payroll in one system, KLARA is the best overall choice.
KLARA processes card payments, TWINT, Apple Pay, and Google Pay through a single system, with no base fee and no need for a contract with a separate payment provider; the NFC reader is integrated into the register. Treatwell and Fresha offer their own payment solutions with their own rates, while Salonkee provides a payment module whose terms and conditions in Switzerland are not published.
Of the solutions compared, only KLARA integrates point-of-sale and Swiss financial accounting within the same system, with automatic synchronization and automatic daily closing. Salonkee generates accounting reports in its Plus package, while Fresha and MySalon provide analyses and export options. In all three cases, the actual bookkeeping takes place in a separate system.
There is no general requirement to use a cash register in Switzerland. What is required is proper, transparent cash management with complete records. Businesses with annual sales of CHF 100,000 or more are also subject to VAT. A point-of-sale system is the easiest way to meet both requirements.
Only to a limited extent. MySalon Free costs CHF 0, but is limited to 10 bookings per month and one calendar, and does not include the point-of-sale module; this costs CHF 19 per month and requires a Pro or Premium subscription. Fresha has discontinued its free subscription. If you really want to start without any fixed costs, you’ll end up with a basic payment app that doesn’t include a customer database, accounting, or appointment scheduling.
CHF 39 per month for monthly billing and CHF 35 per month for annual billing. Included are online appointment booking, the Basic website, and “Book with Google.” Appointment reminders via email are free; via text message, they cost CHF 0.10 per message.
35 percent on the first booking made by each new customer through the marketplace, 0 percent on subsequent marketplace bookings, and 2.5 percent on online prepayments. In addition, there is a monthly fee of CHF 49 and a one-time setup fee of CHF 199 for monthly payments.
No. Fresha costs $19.95 per month for individuals and $14.95 per eligible team member on the Team Plan, plus a one-time 20 percent fee on new customers from the marketplace, with a minimum fee of $6.
The Starter Package starts at CHF 79 per month. The point-of-sale system is included in the Plus Package, while forms and loyalty points are included in the Business Package. Salonkee does not publish prices for the Plus and Business packages or the Payments module in Switzerland.
Fresha lists memberships and packages on its pricing page, while Salonkee offers subscriptions in its Plus package and loyalty points in its Business package. At KLARA, packages and credit are managed through customer cards and gift certificates.
Fresha includes consultation forms and patch tests in both plans, while Salonkee includes forms in its Business package.
Tips belong to the employees and, according to standard practice, should not be included in the company’s revenue. With KLARA, tips are recorded at the register or directly at the payment terminal, automatically broken down by employee and time period, and—with the accounting module enabled—posted to a transfer account, ensuring that revenue figures remain accurate. Payouts can then be initiated directly through online banking. For the other solutions compared, no comparable chain has been documented in Switzerland.
Among the providers compared, only KLARA offers Swissdec ELM5-certified payroll software. This allows payroll reports to be submitted electronically to compensation funds, insurance companies, and tax authorities without having to fill out forms.
